Post 13: explain why it has become so difficult to have a civil, courteous, and productive discussions of important issues in the United States.

 I have been in the United States since early 2020. As the global pandemic started just after I got here, I didn't have as many chances as I would like to socialize and get to know other people. But I can tell why having discussions in Brazil has become difficult. People usually do not read or educate themselves on the topics they want to discuss. Besides that, lately people are extremely sensitive. You cannot disagree or have a different opinion. Certain topics seem to have like a hive mind behind it, where everyone needs to think alike. Exchange of ideas and different opinions lead to a good discussion and help all parties involved to expand their knowledge of different topics.

    I like your comments about the same difficulties with public discourse in Brazil as here in the US. It seems that people are much the same. So is the whole world less tolerant now than in the past? Or are our voices just amplified by social media that highlights differences that were always there?

 My Post 15 was briefer than I would like. I should probably have explained more ideas of how I prepare myself when writing an academic text. Some advice might encourage other students to look at their writing process in a different way and help in some kind of fashion.
